Fixing a couple of bathroom tiles with silicone sealant.

Is it acceptable to fix two tiles (each 200mm x 200mm) to a plyboard wall with silicone sealant rather than adhesive. The tiles are positioned at the end of the bath behind the shower/bath mixer. Would I then be able to apply the same sealant along the grout lines?

The reason is that I need to make the quick fix for a friend in a property some distance from where I live and cannot use proper tile adhesive with a view to returning a day or two later to apply the grout. The original adhesive and grout (done ages ago) has failed and water over time has penetrated down below to the floor/ceiling below.

Thanks in advance for any advice.
