I want to fix a wooden batten to the wall above a large window to attach a curtain rail to. The batten will be 280mm long. Is it best to use nails, and if so what kind, or screws? If I screw it should I use wall plugs? If I drill a hole through the batten and into the wall should the wall plugs extend through the batten too or should I try to push it through the wood so it is only in the wall? I dont want to use any adhesives?
Thanks for any advice.

Screw with plugs make sure the plugs are all the way through into the wall. Drill through the batten into the wall put the plug in tap it flush with the timber stick your screw in and knock the whole lot through the timber into the wall

Depends whats above the window? if just plasterboard glueing would be the best option.
