fixing electric socket to tiled wall

John - they are: go back six posts. Anyway, problem solved but in an odd way. I took a rasp and filed the existing screw so as to reduce the height and circumference of the head. It fits the faceplate much better now. Many thanks to you all for your time and interest.

Let's assume I could never get the faceplate screwed back. Would it be possible to fit a new box and faceplate without disturbing the tiles?

Its dead easy to replace the socket outlet, assuming there's a little spare wire behind there.
As for the steel box, it depends if the tiles overlap the box edges whether it will come out simply!

It must have been fitted with the wrong screws in the first place.
