Hi. I would like to have a floor joist installed to extend a room horizontally into a loft space. Current floor joists run from party wall to internal load bearing wall. An extra joist is needed to run paralell to the existing ones.
Some of the existing joists are built into an unused chimney breast in the room and then span across to the internal wall. The new joist will also need to run from the chimney breast to the internal wall (a span of 370cm).
Is it possible to fix a timber wall/ledger plate to the chimney breast and hang the joist from that via a suitable joist hanger?
What dimensions should the wall plate be for this one joist, and how should it be attached to the masonry?
Lastly, what would be the approximate cost for supplying and installing the joist?
