Hi,
I am putting up a stud wall for a new onsuite bathroom.

The top and bottom will be secured to existing joists and the sides will be screwed into the brick work of the existing room. Can I just screw through the backing and skim plaster on the existing wall to secure these, or is it best to cut and knock the plaster away and screw directly onto the brickwork.

Many thanks

Trapping the plaster behind is ok and will afford you the full width of the timber upright to fix to.

Make sure you use long enough fixings.
