This new phenomenon of putting flags on lamp posts isn't really a demonstration of Patriotism, it's more driven by a sense of cultural and racial anxiety.

Unionists in N.Ireland have been putting Union and Ulster flags on lamp posts for years, in Ulster, the flags go as a response to the perception that their British identity is under threat of being subsumed by aggressive Irish nationalism.

In mainland Britain the threat is perceived to come from a fast growing Muslim population and mass uncontrolled immigration, in both cases, the response is to put up symbols of ethnic identity to tell the government that people are not going to go quietly into ethnic extinction.

Whether these fears are justified doesn't really matter, its the perception that counts. Starmer needs to do something to counteract these perceptions or things can get really serious.

Until immigration is brought under control, grifters and conmen like Tommy Robinson will continue to lead millionaire lifestyles in the racial hate industry.

Drove past Bas Vegas today. The flags were out.

I'm always reminded of Hollywood when I drive past that sign. They should be twinned with them……….

It would be OK to fly these flags if the king was visiting.
It was OK to fly them on the Queens jubilees (all of them).
It's OK to fly them on days that celebrate the end of the war etc.

No one complained about them then, they were not "offending" anyone then so what's changed?

If you are complaining about seeing the English or union flags then perhaps it's you that's the problem, perhaps it's you that's the racist
who does not want to see the flags of his (or her) country being flown locally.
Shame on you, take your racism and hate against our great country with you when you leave to go to another country that celebrates flying it's own flags.

I am extremely patriotic. But mass flag flying is usually associated with nationalism rather than patriotism. It probably isn't a good sign.
