Hi all,

Hope yous can help, I have an existing flat roof extension many years old, we are going to take the flat roof off, build on top the existing walls about 500mm to the main house eaves, and put a pitched roof on. The existing extension is 100 brick, 50 cavity, 100 timber stud. My question is, would this be achievable by fixing a stud frame for the inner leaf on top of the existing? If so how would i tie it down? Hope this is clear.

there isn't any problem with extending a stud wall vertically or upwards, but if this wall is to carry the weight of the roof, then you will need to prove the existing stud wall is adequate.

the walls can be connected with bolts, cleats or even screws.

pro advice from a structural engineer may be useful.
