Flat Roof Firring problem.

Is it possible to run the firring strips accross the joists, this would allow me to run the joists across the shortest span of the roof.

Many years ago I did some work at a manufacturer of cork slabs cut at an angle and various thicknesses used above the decking to provide a run off, dont know about the cost though.
