Flat Roof for Entertaining?

Hi (total noob here)

I need a Flat Roof so I can entertain guests. (dancing etc.) However I know if not built correctly, it can cause major damage to the house!

Therefore... What factors must I consider before giving the okay to build a flat roof? (so that I don't get ripped off by the contractor)

Please be specific... types of materials, method for drainage, pros and cons of different methods etc. Thanks so much.

If the roof/house is where your profile indicates then I don't even know how they build houses out there.

You could use the UK guide for Floor joist sizes to suit spans and centres
Roof timbers would not be big enough.
