I have boxed my bath in with timber then used backerboard to cover. Can I use normal tile adhesive on the backerboard or do I still need flexible as the timber underneath may contract. I know it safe to use flexible on anything but I have a tub of flexible for my floor and a tub of non flex so if its ok to use it will save me buying a tub ?

Thanks

A tub of flexible for the floor? it would and should usually be a powdered adhesive in a bag - what brand\product is it you have?

as for your question - single part flexible adhesive would be the best bet

Sorry got mixed up, I have a tub of non flex which I want to know if I can use on the backerboard and I have the flexible powder for my floor.

Don’t risk it, get yourself a decent flexi adhesive for the bath panel. What size are the tiles? You should consider using powder adhesive on anything much larger than 250mm.

Mapei trade products are good quality but where did you get yours from, not B&Q I hope?

The tiles are only 150mm wide x 150mm wide. Yes I got the mapei from b n q. Could it be different quality, surely not mapei should be mapei ?

A quality tub mix flexi will be fine.

You would think so but unfortunately not. This was investigated by another OP & myself a while ago when B&Q first started selling the “Mapei” brand. But, by their own admission, “Mapei Buildfix” as it is branded is not the same as trade Mapei & appears aimed specifically at the DIY market through B&Q & possibly others. It may well be good quality (unlike some products sold in DIY sheds) but it begs the question, why market a different product for DIY when the “bona fide” trade products are so good!

Unfortunately I can’t find the specific thread in question for the moment but will keep searching & post a link when I can.

Just went and checked the packet, you are right buildfix. I thought I was buying trade mapei.

I checked the mapei adhesive I bought from B n Q and it never had buildflex on it only the mapei grout did.
