Flexible tap connector leak

Hi all,

Just installed a new bath. Before installing I fitted flexible tap connectors to the taps to ensure a good tight connection (or so I thought!). I noticed one had a rubber washer and the other a fibre washer. I connected these to the copper pipes via isolation valves.

After turning the water on I noticed a leak on the hot (the one with the rubber washer) at the top of the hose just below the nut. Typically this is the one that is hard to reach.

So I went out and bought a basin wrench. Took the connector back off, put a bit of Boss super green on and tightened it up as much as the restricted access would allow.

Whilst it is no longer dripping it is still a bit wet just below the nut.

My next job is to fit a vanity unit but as this will make access even harder I am reluctant to do so until I am confident things are OK.

I would be most grateful for any advice.

Cheers

Not sure about your particular taps, but normally, the fibre washer (often red) goes at the tap end.

If you've still got trouble, a light smear of "Fernox LSX" silicone on the mating surfaces before assembly works absolute wonders with iffy tap connectors. It comes in a little yellow tube from Screwfix, B&Q etc.

Overtightening flexi hoses with rubber washers rather than a fibre washer can cause them to split.
They only need a slight torque after being screwed up by hand.

Thanks guys,

I've followed the tips from both of you:
- I applied some Fernox LSX
- and I made a point of not over-tightening this time.

Just did it about an hour ago and it's looking good.

Much appreciated. All the best!
