hi people, i have been asked to change my local football teams flood lights on a pitch thge size of a 5-aside pitch. at the moment they have 6 posts one at each corner and two in the middle, on each post is two 150w halogen flood lights, so the lighting isnt great and costs a lot!!!
the plan is to change them for 1 70w metal halide on each post. what do you guys think? or will son's be better???

I would go for metal halide because of the white light. SONs would be horrible. Have you done a calculation for the lumens required? I've no idea what the requirement would be for an outdoor football pitch, but 70W lamps sound feasible, if a little on the dim side. I would err on the side of brighter rather than dimmer.

ok great, iamnow thinking they are 500w halogens on the posts currently !! so i think i will go with 100w metal halide fittings

Without seeing the setup it isn't possible to say, however it may be worth while seeing if you can lay your hands on a 250w and a 400w metal halide floodlight to see what they look like.

I would have expected at least a 250W, but probably more like a 400W HQI fitting for an application like that

If it is only a small five a side, one 150w metal halide in each corner with 2 on the central post would be my immediate choice.

How big is a five a side?

Get a manufacturer to spec the fittings and qty for you.
