floor expansion gap to include tongue?

hi guys,

just about to lay engineered wood, quick question about the expansion gap. instructions say the tongue should face the wall. however when i include the spacers for the expansion gap this leaves quite a big gap because the tongue is included in the gap. is this normal? should i cut off the tongue to leave me with just the 12mm gap? cheers

Trim the tongue off.
