I have scoured around looking to see if anyone has this same floor construction, but to no avail as yet.
I ripped up the carpet of my late 1920s semi detached, to be presented with this horror. I am not even sure where to start. I might get a trade in but I want to know what I am working with first.
The floor in this hallway is spongey in some places and solid in others. Where it is spongey is at the bottom of the stairs and where that cement “repair” is.
I knocked out a small piece of it for investigation purposes and was presented with this red 1cm layer of asphalt? Below that is this lightly Sandy 0.5cm infill, and then below that, it’s fairly solid. Could be concrete, could be hardcore, I won’t know until I dig down further.
anyone come across a floor of this construction?
Do I just cover with carpet and move house?
