Hi,

I,m currently in the advanced planning stages of my ground level rear extension (40m2)

Basically i,m knocking out the back of the house at ground floor level and going open plan into the new extension.

The new extension will have block and beam floor complete with wet underfloor heating.

My plan is to continue the underfloor heating into the original part of the house.

The original floor is traditional joists and floorboards with about a 2ft void underneath.

What would be the best way to go with this floor?
Should i keep it the way it is, insulate underneath and fit the heating?

Or should i concrete the whole thing in?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

IMO lift the boards, fill between the joists with fibre-glass to depth of your choice ( fix netting across bottom of joists to support it ).

Will give better insulation - assuming you use depth available - at less cost than insulating above and save on room height,

Possible disadvantage, could give very nice home to mice.

And what about the underfloor heating? Will it be okay to run the piping between the new concrete floor and this one.

Will the floor covering be the same in both rooms?

Have you already calculated your pipe-spacing and layout ?

What size is the boarded area you want to heat ?

Floor will be finished with tiles.

Havent calculated the pipe spacing yet but the boarded area is around 15 Sq M.

Thanks for the input.

15 m2 is probably a reasonable size for one circuit ( obviously just guessing at your heating needs ) so you wouldn't need to spread a circuit over new/old surface.

Believe it or not that had just crossed my mind last night :D Gotta be cheaper than filling in that floor eh??

Cheers, much appreciated.
