Hi All,

An existing kitchen concrete floor will be removed to make way for a floating floor with underfloor heating that will also run into the extension. What is going to be the best floor construction to ensure this goes as smoothly as possible. I.e. getting the levels to match between existing and new extension floor so that the new floating floor will be correct along with the heating and insulation under. Ground bearing slab or Beam and block to the extension?

Thanks, Simon.

No builder, given the option, would choose to do a block beam over a slab.

Does a floating floor have no screed? If so you would need the concrete slab to be flatter than normal.

Block n beam wouldnt help much as the beams are pre stressed so have a camber.

Interesting, cheers both.
The floating floor IS the screed.. But yes, they will have to factor in the additional 65mm screed over structural slab and insulation between.

ground bearing concrete slab specification
Solid: 65mm screed, 500g polythene separation layer, 125mm Kingspan Kooltherm K3 insulation, 25mm perimeter edge insulation. 100mm thick C30 grade concrete floor slab, 1200 gauge polythene dpm taken up edge of slab and lapped with horizontal dpc. 50mm sand blinding on 150mm well consolidated sulphate free hardcore or other measures as engineer’s recommendations. Max ‘U’ value 0.13 w/m²k.
