All,

I am wanting to floor my loft, put a light up there, and store stuff. The house was built late 1800s and has some odd piece of wood from floor to ceiling. Does anyone know what they are? Can I remove them? Do I have to strengthen the floor?

I am not trying to convert it, just to have some flooring to make it easier to store stuff.

Here are some pics to help...

Assume all timber in a loft is structural so removing anything will require remedial works and strengthening.. just cut boards round them..
