Flow and return wrong way.

Our Worcester Greenstar boiler was installed 2009, it has had 7 annual services and this time it has been pointed out to me that it was installed with the flow and return round the wrong way. What would be involved to put that right.

so its taken 8 yrs to find?
you need a plumber to change the pipework. dont bother ringing the original installer or the clowns who have serviced it for the last 7 years.
 
Not a combi, but what I don't get is where the pipework is wrong. The boilers running now and the return pipe on the right looking at the boiler is red hot and the left the flow is just hot but surely that won't change unless something inside the boiler is round the wrong way.

If the return is hotter than the flow then it is piped backwards.

Whats involved in changing it back? Feck alone only knows, we haven't seen it.
 
unless its airlocked and the heat is see sawing . find it strange that 8 years after install its piped backwards. nothing in the boiler can be fitted 'backwards' really.

fault on the boiler maybe? bypass causing heat round the boiler convecting down the return?

needs a proper look IMHO
 
Greenstars, being pants, don't have return sensors, so it has no way of knowing if its been plumbed by a muppet.

But it will function, so no wonder SERVICE engineers have missed it.
 
Just to add, also noticed by the last guy the F&E tank doesn't a vent pipe looping over the top of it just one in the bottom of the tank which seems to make the tank overflow when the boiler runs. Could this be causing it.
 
You need someone that's competent in. There's a possibility the boilers piped up correctly and the pumps the wrong way round....
 
The one pipe in the FE tank is not uncommon. It will be a combined feed and vent. It should be 22mm.
 
Do you think the additional vent pipe would stop the header tank overflowing every time the boiler fires up.
I don't understand your question. A 22mm pipe from the bottom of the FE tank is all that's required. No additional pipes are required. Are you now saying that the FE tank is overflowing? If so, you need to get someone to look at your system pipework configuration.
