Hi this happens now and again (once in 10-15 flushes) ive read up on this and took the washer out and cleaned it, was a tiny bit mucky (toilet and parts about 2 yrs old now) I didn't do the cup test (to flush out anything)

any other suggestions please don't really want to put a new on in again, :) thanks

thanks you may be right about replacing it, sure I read someone were you don't have to disconnect it at the bottom??checked washer seems fine? very odd?

when you buy your new valve, it will have a set of instructions in. these will help you to swop over the majority of the valve .note, you will have to turn off the water to the valve entry point, hopefully with a local service valve or using the kitchen stopcock
