Hi guys and girls,

I received a fluke t140 for christmas :) its arrived but different to what i imagined or described. The probes have very little contacts at the end.
I thought they would arrive like this:

But where the long metal needles are at the end of the probe there is only a stub of a point. It looks like the needles exist but there are some black plastic covers that appear to be glued on (which i cant get off, am i not pulling hard enough?).

I hope ive made sense, but all in told can i get these plastic covers off?

Thanks and happy new year!

You should be able to pull them off with your fingers. Surely, one cover is red and the other black.

The small tips would be the GS38 compliant ones.

The long probes as pictured are not for use in the UK

I don't own (nor have I ever used) a T140, but my fluke multimeter has probes similar to that which you describe, as I believe is a requirement under GS38 (although GS38 itself is not mandatory). They can be removed from my set of test leads, although it does take a fair amount of force.

They are glued on on the fluke T100 series. I got rid of mine and got a T5-1000 instead, which has removable shrouds.

Have you tried testing live to earth on an RCD protected circuit yet?

That's gonna get annoying

Another reason I changed to the T5, you are supposed to be able to test between Line - Neutral and then Line - Earth but it never seemed to work

Apologies for my earlier incorrect post. I was getting mixed up with a different device.

I have a Fluke T100 and yes, both tips are shrouded with black plastic caps which leave about 1.5mm exposed, as sold in the UK market.

Strange, that they are glued on to the T100 series... they are removeable on my T50 if you pull hard enough.

And I've never had trouble with doing the llive neutral first if I want to use it live-earth.... though I admit it gets annoying!
