Ford Focus Problems

My wife has a problem with her 2000 Ford Focus Zetec.

Not much to go on, I'm afraid but she said that the car is labouring and struggling for power and that exhaust emissions were 'stinking'.

There is also an intermittant metal-on-metal grating from the rear, which is more prevalent when the car is first used, but disappears after a few minutes.

Car is going into garage on Tuesday to have both faults rectified, but wondered if anyone had any ideas or suggestions as to cause of either?

probably misfiring due to damp and it sounds like the silencer baffles are shot.

2 months ago, i saw a petrol 206 come to a halt with the cat totally stuffed, the insides had fell apart.
