There must be a leaf or two !!!! kicking around yours or next doors garden from this tree, a close up pic of them would help before i commit but am drawn towards a beech.
Looks like a Beech to me too. If so Beech is a medium water demand species, which is good. (for you)
Soil plasticity is very important. e.g. At 5m distance and 20m height, in medium plastic soil your foundation will be approx 1.6m deep. At high plasticity it will be bordering on 2.5m - which is a special foundation needing structural design.
If the tree turns out to be high water demand as well then things get worse still.
I've had a look around and i cant see any leaves that arent decomposed.
Will the building surveyor be ok with me telling him its a beech tree, or will he expect some sort of formal report from a specialist.
Same with the soil..will he expect a report or will he be ok just by looking into the excavation already dug to determine thats its mostly soil, and theres hardly any clay at all?
He should be able to tell if its a beech tree, the same goes for your ground conditions unless he is a total dick Any problems contact his manager, this is basic stuff, remember you have paid a fee for which you should expect a professional service. good luck
