Hi,

I am new to this forum so apologies if this in the wrong section.

I am looking to build a small open sided porch in front of my house. I have attached a couple of images. The total weight would be close to 1000kg and I can't foresee much wind or snow loading. As a result, I am considering a foundation more in line with a large garden wall.

I am proposing to use a 450mm wide by 150mm deep strip foundation, 3 courses below ground level. Do people think this will sufficient?

For the record the previous fully brick porch I demolished was just built on a 50mm concrete raft. This showed no signs of subsidence!

Thanks in advance for the help.

Ross

Foundations are not about the weight on them, but about going down to a depth where the ground is stable and can also support the load.

Raft foundations written differently to strip foundations.
