We have had a second hand freezer for about 18 months and we never here it switch off. However if I switch it off at the wall and then switch it back on again immediately, then it usually does not start again immediately, instead after about two or three minutes afterwards. Could this possibly be a dodgy thermostat etc?

The make is NORFROST ICE CHEF

We have tried changing and adjusting the temperature knob. Somebody said to my mother that freezers don't go on and off like fridges do.....?

It can also get very wet down the sides but this might be a door seal problem.

Thanks in advance

you can get a fridge/freezer thermostat for a few pounds in shops that sell kitchen things. See what temperature it is keeping.

freezers DO cycle on and off. No compressor is designed to work constantly 24/7.

Get a thermometor and see what temperature the air is inside.

If its below -30'C, its probably the thermostat.

If its above -20'C its probably lack of refrigerant.
