I want to remove the back door to our house, which is in the kitchen, and block up the door. The intention is then to replace the existing window in the dining room (that's next to the kitchen) with a set of French doors.

Does anyone know if this is okay for building regs?

Thanks in advance

I did the exact same thing in a house that I renovated a few years back. Building Control came out and had no problems with it at all.

Mine was an open plan kitchen / diner though. I think there has to be an external door from the kitchen area without having to go through another room. If it's not open plan I think you will have problems.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Have you also considered the possible planning implications?

I think the planning department would show some interest if going from a window to a door, but not from a door to a window because a door gives that room a different "use" so to speak.

I had it on one of my jobs.
