frig fault

I have an old Hoover Spacemaster de lux frig/freezer. The top half is frig and the bottom half frezzer. The frig has packed up whilst the freezer still functions perfectly. If the frig thermostat is turned up to max it freezes. If it is turned down, it doesn't work at all. Neither of these operations affects the freezer.
I assume it is a faulty thermostat. Is there any easy way it can be changed, or replaced?

It does sound like the thermostat is faulty. you can get a replacement as the part is mostly standard across all fridge freezers.
