Hi,

My wooden front door is currently fitted with a mortice lock and a yale cylinder latch lock, however I've lost the key for the yale lock.

I mainly used the latch to keep the door secure whilst I am in the house and use both at night/when I am away from home.

How much can I expect to pay to have this replaced by a locksmith and can you recommend a secure latch for me to purchase?

new cylinder 3 to 8 squid 3 spare keys 20 mins to fit it yourself!!!

If the doors open, why not just change the cylinder yourself - a 10 minute job at most, and you can pickup a decent Yale X5 cylinder for about £10ish.

Assuming your mortice lock is a BS rated one (kitemark on the faceplate), then there is no need to replace the latch - particularly as it's only used while your in the property.

If its deadlocked by the key, then you'll be looking at about £40ish to open the door. You've then the option to loose the internal deadlocking facility and just change the external cylinder, replace the whole lot, or pay to get the internal cylinder keyed to a new external one. The new ERA models are good value for money.

Cheers,

Wasn't sure how easy they were to fit...I'll take a wander down the DIY store and have a bash this afternoon.

Thanks.
