Anyone big on photography here? I am looking at taking up photography for a hobby, I am looking at the fujifilm XT5 and the XT50, any thoughts or experience to point me in the right direction?
yes I used my phone on my last cruise, it got me the photography bug, I actually enjoyed it and looked into cameras and lenses and realised that I would like to invest in a proper camera and take more specialised shots. I love animals and wild life so it makes sense to get a dedicated camera to achieve what I would like to achieve, ie better photographs and interchangeable lenses to reach better distances.
Take a look in dedicated camera shops or CEX for some 2nd hand gear. Lots available and you can make sure your hooked before buying the latest mega bucks camera and lenses.
I have a Canon EOS, few years old now but does what I want it to do. I also mainly use my phone now unless travelling further.
Cannon and Nikon were always seen as the go to.
Sony (in part because they are now the biggest and best manufacturers of the CMOS detectors) were then seen to have taken a dramatic lead.
The Sony alpha range was then seen to be a dominant camera (especially with their mirrorless range).
The comment was that they keep their best CMOS chips for themselves, and the remainder for other camera manufacturers.
(Note that I am a bottom end mirrored SLR user. And was watching the progression of positive reviews move from Nicon and Cannon onto Sony. But have never had a chance to use a Sony).

I have a canon 5d mk4. If you want to take up photography you will need a proper “SLR” with at least one f2.8 lens. Otherwise the iPhone does all you need. You can get away with a “travel” lens as a starter. But ideally if you went canon you want to get your hands on some L-series lenses.
There is no point in going for an in between bridge camera.
