fused spur to 2 switches to run flood light and pond pump

Hi all,

looking for some help.

i would like to run an outdoor light and a pond pump from a fused spur.

i would like the light and pump to have independent switches inside the house.

any ideas how i can do this? is the below the correct solution?

fused spur > 20 amp switch > outdoor junction box > armoured cable > outdoor junction box > garden floodlight
(from the same fused spur) > 20 amp switch > outdoor junction box > armoured cable > outdoor junction box > pond pump

hopefully thats explained clearly. in essence, from the same fused spur, can you run in parallel to two separate switches, one to a light, one to a pump.

Providing that all the proper rules are applied you could run L E N from the fused spur to the switches then one N & one E and two Switched Line conductors (say in SWA cable) therefore at the end you have a choice of loads for intance a light on Line 1 and a pump on Line 2 and the N (& the E) to both, therefore switching each independantly if required.

You are not limited to just the two either you are only limited by the total loads (just be awasre that some things (motors could be one) may have a starting current that for a short time is far more than the steady running current and might draw excess if it stalls or begins to stall due to it becoming mechanicall overloaded - that could probably be quite reasonably discounted quite reasonably with small pond pumps though).

You could run 10 or 20 or 100 individually switched things if you wanted provided you keep the loads and short circuit protection, earth fault protectio, and overload protection for the circuit(s) within the limits.

I'm not an electrician so don't take this as gospel.
Why do you want 20A switches? Is it you want double pole switching, if so use an SFCU as the "fused spur" and you'll then be able to use 10A switches. Although the SFCU will isolate both loads (rather than just one).
What do you mean by "20 amp switch > outdoor junction box", do you mean switch mounted on an outdoor junction box?

Equally what do you mean by "outdoor junction box > floodlight / pump". Do you mean the junction box which is supplied as part of the floodlight / pump.
