Hi Everyone!

I have this fused spur that I do not know what it does. It has two cables going into it. Only one is connected to the spur, the second cable only has earth wired to it. The second cable has 4 cores, one of them is black, which makes me think this is old cable. Both cables go under floor and I do not have access to that area.

Any thoughts?

It does nothing. The cable connected to it is the supply. The other one would have been whatever load was connected, but as it's not connected now, it has no purpose.

Have the same in my flat, would guess mine originally supplied the garage, but likely disconnected before house sold to me, as a non registered DIY job.

Yours could have fed anything, clearly now no longer used.

In this case, would it be possible for me to get a sparky and turn this into socket and extend it to the loft?

Are you saying you want a socket half way up the wall beside a door and another in the loft?

No, just one in the loft. Alternatively, I could make a socket where the spur is now and use extension cord

No, just one in the loft.
Well in that case I see no reall issue, the socket may be on the live side or the switched side, however first you will need to establish where the power source is to ensure it's not already a spur off the ring etc.
Your elecctrician will automatically do this of course.

I know the answer for this already...but since I know a bit of electric DIY, would it be OK for me just to turn this into a socket myself?

No. It has to be checked out to find the source and whether it would be suitable for the purpose you want.
This will involve various tests and observations to be made, preferably by someone skilled at doing these things.
You can't just stick a socket on the end of a cable and hope for the best.
