Hi I'm dabdil can you give me your thoughts on the following please.

1) I have a g.e.t. consumer box and have two spare slots for further mcbs. But not sure where to get these from as b&q do wylex and on the blister packet it says only for wylex consumer units. 2) Also Professional wiring installation has been done to this house but there is only oneend of the ring circuit wired to an existing mcb not sure what has happened to the other end. 3) What components/things do I need to wire a heater in the bathroom. I want hang one of those glen convector heaters one can pick up from argos for about 20 quid. I have a small bathroom with a small window and am getting loads of condensation and damage to ceiling and walls etc. NOTE: I have a extractor fan and a not in use hotwater cylinder with access to a 3kw capable cable.

1: electrical wholesaler. and they would be able to give you a suitable alternative

2: might be a radial. but you should check because if its not it could be a fire hazard

3: itll need to go thru a fused spur, but you need to make sure that the FCU and heater are in appropriate zones

I would advise against a convector heater in a bathroom. Maybe an oil filled rad or towel rail. Especially as you describe the batroom as small.

The reason why I want to put a convector heater is that its quick at heating the room up with thermostatic control. I could activate the heater only when I need to use the bathroom. The house is on a hill and there is cold air blowing through under the floor boards..I have to run the hot water tap for around nearly 2 minutes before hot water actually reaches the taps. This house is over 100 years old.

PS: Forgot to add. Would a 30ma RCD be still required even if some consumer units seem to have a RCD built in.

some units come with RCD. these are acceptable, providing they are protecting what needs to be protected and are the right ratings

A convector heater isn't a great idea here. You've got a lot of water in the bathroom; that will get in the heater (when the heater is not running) and probably b0rk it. The heater isn't even splash proof - the element is exposed through some holes. Irrespective of laws and the wiring regulations, putting something like that in a bathroom is a bad idea. Furthermore, the instructions say not to use in bathrooms.

A better solution would firstly be to fit an extractor fan to get rid of the humid air, and then perhaps a heating solution which is safer for bathroom use.

You could fit a heated towel rail (either water or electric), or get a tubular heater, or even an oil filled radiator would be a bunch better than the convector.

I found the following site which sells GET MCBs.

Hopefully thats what your after. Just found the site while looking for your mcb's so cant's say how good the site is.

If your wholesaler is like mine, one of the biggest in the country, the guys behind the ordering desks no sod all. I wish big wholesalers would let you browse their stock in person rather than ask what what you want over the counter.
