Going ahead with the above. Got 3 quotes but told them all my brother in law will do electrics as he trained as an electrician and worked for himself up until 4 years ago when he changed careers. Now the arcihtect says that he presumes the Building Inspector will want all electrics done by a Part P electrician, or they will make an extra charge..presume this would be to have it double checked. Sound right to you ?

You can either employ an electrician who is self certified to effectively approve his own installation or alternatively if he is not, Building control will charge a little extra to approve his handywork.

Your brother should know all about this though especially as he will need to make sure his handywork complies. That said many a Building Inspector will only give a cursory glance at an installation especially if it looks 'professional'!
