Quick question please.

I'm looking at a garage conversion in Scotland and note the requirement that the u values that need to be achieved differ based on the existing building.

Is the 'existing building' the actual garage being converted or the rest of the house?

Many thanks

Hi Alan,

'existing building' would refer to the fact you are converting or extending a building rather than building a new seperate structure. So, in your case, the proposals for the garage would need to meet the U-value required of an 'existing building', which are slightly less stringent than a newbuild.
This is based on an attached garage, not sure what the requirement would be if you converted a detached space.
Also, can sometimes off-set insultation requirements by improving elsewhere, but not much point here.
