Can someone give advice on building regs?

I'm opening my garage out a bit by knocking a side of the garage through into a walkway which is between the old house and garage.

When the garage was built, a new master bedroom was added upstairs above the walkway and garage.

The wall having a hole knocked through is being supported by steel beams etc.

Question is: what does the roof of the garage need to be lined with to meet fire regs - and apart from boxing off the steel, does the beam need any extra protection?

Thanks!

use fireline boards when you need to separate garage from dwelling and this will be more than enough. you can clad the steel with fireline boards too.

fireline sounds like the job then.

I heard someone say something about two layers of plasterboard. Would fireline be better / cheaper solution?

cheers for the advice

fixing two layers of plasterboard is a chore. fire line every time. cheaper and less effort.

i'm not entirely sure of fire reg's but 12.5 mm boards and skim offer at least 1/2 hour fire resistance. what was specified/recommended to you?
