Hi guys, I had a small existing pillar which sits on concrete foundations and built further to reach around 6ft high.

The pillar is 1.5 brick x 1.5 Brick. The core of the pillar had a half brick centre to about 1 ft then I left it empty and filled it with concrete for the rest of 5 ft I built.

Now the wooden gate I have built is 2m high and 1.4m wide. The weight has ended being 52kg. I have bought some heavy duty hinges but I am unsure if the pillar will be sufficient enough to hold the gate?

The gate will pull it over/loosen it the first time it slams.

It will fail at the bottom of the concrete. Maybe not the first slam but very soon.

Wooden gate suggests solid so plenty of wind load.

Get yourself a nice chunky piece of 90mm SHS and rebuild your pier around it with a decent foundation

Thanks for the info guys, the best solution is then to make lighter gate, how much weight/ leverage would the above said pillar be able to cope with without failing.
