are you sure its a thyristor? (only asking) as thyristors tend to be not as reliable as triacs (good fun if you operate one on dc)

Could well be a triac, I'll open up the box sometime and get the info off the back.

, as is an SCR, a traic is basically just two SCRs in one package, so there is one at conducts on each half of the cycleI suppose its gotta be triacs? I have never opened it up to find out what is in the package, it works though 
. I just got some BTA16 600B Triacs for fixing up an old NJD6000 dimmer pack (see below) and some BT136 600 which are Triacs for fixing up some standard domestic dimmers.
