Hi there,

I'm wanting to make my back garden look nice. The slabs though are very rough looking.

They almost look like paint peeling (they've been there since I moved in).

My entire garden is covered in them so to replace would be a huge hassle and very expensive. Just on looking at the picture, does anyone have any guidance on what, if anything, can be done to clean and pretty them up?

Get yourself a good pressure washer and blast away at the surface till all that 'paint/sealer' has disappeared.
Next rake out all the loose mortar between the joints and re-point with a dry mix well packed in. Lightly hose over and let it set.
You may have to apply a sealer of some kind once you have got back to the bare brickwork but you probably won't know that until it's done.
