Hi, First message on here

Firstly I have some experiance in electrical installation as I completed training as part of my apprenticship 6 years ago. However I am not part P certificated as it is not part of my job.

I have recently moved into a house where the previous owner seems to have been a bit of a diyer. However there is a problem with what he has done regarding some of the electrics.

He has fed a detached garage via a spur from a spur on a ring main. There is no RCD protection at all. This I plan to rectify by having a new consumer unit fitted.

My main problem is that the cable going from the spur to the garage is hi tuff cable that has been buried abut four inches under some paving slabs in the garden and i now want to lay turff.

Has anybody used hi tuff cable before as i have never herd of it before now.

sorry about the long message.

It does not meet the requirements for directly buried cables.

Disconnect it at both ends, remove it or leave it there, put in SWA properly buried and marked. It's not big enough to supply a CU anyway.

A PVC cable that is more robust than standard PVC sheathed cables and is suitable for general power, control and fixed wiring uses. An alternative to SWA for outdoor applications when direct burial of the cable is not required.

And dig deep.

Under a lawn you'll ned the trench to be at least 450mm deep with marker tape above the cable. And that is using armoured cable.
