Every time the battery goes in a room's detector there is a saga to replacing it. There appear to be no instructions in the booklet and the advice we have been given about putting the battery in and entering the code 5 minutes after leaving the room undisturbed does not seem to work. Please could someone advise me how to insert the battery -ideally in words of one syllable or less as I am a bear with a very small brain.

Take the lid off the detector in question and silence the tamper alarm with your code. Remove the detector's battery, give the battery terminals a little squeeze together (to ensure you have a good contact with the batter) and insert the new battery. Replace the lid, leave the room for a couple of minutes. Re-enter the room and ensure the detector's LED lights up. Now you should be able to enter your code, press "yes" to set the system and then re-enter your code to stop setting.

Thanks. Seems to work I hadn't put the cover back on properly and that seems to be crucial.
