I have just bought a secondhand free standing gas cooker with a bayonet connection hose fitted, the problem being I need to connect the hose into a micropoint socket. Does anyone know if there is such a thing as an adapter or have an aswer to my problem. Thanks in advance.

A Second hand Cooker should have the manufacturers instruction with it it should be thoroughly checked by a Registered Gas Installer with CCN1 and CKR1 certification failure to get any 2nd hand appliance properly checked and installed could be suicide (defective gas grills will produce more than enough Carbopn Monoxide to kill in less than an hour!!)

Personally I am very wary of 2nd hand cookers - there is usually something wrong with them!! :(

i have an answer that you wont like, get a gas engineer to fit/check and confirm it is safe to use before there is a tragedy,
PS if anyone wants to come back at me with the old chestnut of "its easy why pay a gas engineer" then DON'T :D

It is against the rules of the forum to give gas advice, but the simple answer is that there is no adaptor available. Either the hose or the flex has to be changed, but it really should all be inspected and tested, so is not a DIY job. It shouldn't be extroadinarily expensive, so go to the Gas Safe site and phone a couple of RGI's for an estimate or quote.

The answer to your question is: micropoint connectors are not for cookers. You need to get a RGI to change that to a cooker connection.

What are these then?

Micropoint is rarely used for cookers except for some reason around Birmingham.

I dont remember seeing one in London!

Unfortunately the OP wants to come to a DIY solution. Since the only solution to his needs is changing the socket or hose then an RGI is required.

People love to get second hand bargains but often fail to notice potential problems.

To be fair; a freestanding appliance with a hose could give the impression it is plug-and-go, not necessarily that it-has-to-be-done-professionally-but-I'll-hodge-it-instead.
Just get a gas man to install it. Short of a major fault (you'll be glad you didn't use it), I'd expect it still to be cheaper than buying a brand new cooker, if that helps justify it!
