Hi all

We recently had a new kitchen (without integrated appliances) fitted, and the height of the counter is non standard. It's 94cm instead of the normal 90cm. We didn't realise until it was too late that this would be a problem trying to get a cooker, as they are all 90cm tall, and the top needs to be at least flush with the worktop for fire safety. We want a dual fuel freestanding cooker.

Cookers have extendable feet, so we can add another couple of cm there, but that's it. In the manuals for cookers you're told not to put anything underneath the cooker to raise the height. I can see why.

I realise if we weren't choosy we could get someone to fit it however we want, but I want a reputable Gas Safe person to do it.

My question is this. If we were to permanently raise up the floor under the cooker, would that be ok? We have a new slate floor and there's some spare slate so we could easily add a couple of cm under the cooker. I mean have it attached permanently.

Will a reputable gas fitter go for that option? I want to be able to call my household insurance company and tell them what we've done and that a Gas Safe person has done it, and not have it be the reason they don't pay a claim!

Any advice gratefully received.

perfectly ok and best to have the height in the build up than using the feet as the feet on most modern cookers are garbage and twist the frame when extended out and moved about
