Gas Fire disconnection

New to the gas industry,can anyone out there help with my query?
I have a fire to disconnect tomorrow,what I want to know is how do I blank off the gas after the isolation valve,as the customer is getting a new fireplace,then I'm going back to reconnect the same fire.Which type of fitting would be appropriate,blanking plug?stop end?tapered fitting,am really not sure.
Closing the isolation valve alone is not enough I believe if I disconnect from the main that I still have to blank the end of the pipe,so as not to leave an "open end".They didnt teach me everything on my NVQ,its a constant learning curve [/b]What size fitting etc,thanks for any help

Bet any customer reading this must have every confidence in our industry how the hell if this question is genuine has someone passed an exam and got registered if they cannot do something as basic as this without having to ask .

I once removed from a restrictor elbow a very carefully whittled piece of wood that was manifesting itself as a 1/4" plug

Makes a change from the open ended fan gas cocks I sometimes find screwed into the elbow.. Strangely the householders are unable to see the risk.

If it's an old restrictor elbow it might be 3/8"

For the heinous crime of asking an honest question and being honest enough to admit I don't know everything yet,I come in for criticism.WHY???Only wanted to get the job done properly,safely,get off your high horses man.As it turns out you were all WRONG,too busy being smartarses to read the question,to cap off AFTER(KEYWORD KIDDIES) the restrictor elbow I needed an end cap,remember AFTER the restrictor,not before,the pipe leading to the burner,doh!!Many different fittings exist,tapered etc,I thought wrongly that people in the same business might be more willing to help instead of competing for the title of MR GASMAN UK 2006.Pathetic.PS Apologies for the use of the word heinous,get your dictionaries out.

Any customer reading this should be heartened to know I want to do the job right,never had to do anything like that in my NVQ,which after all only gives an insight into the gas industry.What is your problem you prat,I hold my hand up,I'm not as knowledgeable as you,it comes with experience,I'll only get that through time,then I'll be taking work off you,thats if you ever actually get off your arse and do any,doubtful

The outlet of the restrictor surely is after the restrictor what with the restrictor itself being the screw which restricts the gas supply....it is also the point where you cap the supply

If I've got limited intelligence,how come I can actually spell.Even with a spell check at your disposal,you managed to spell at least 4 words wrong in such a short paragraph,your customers must find you really eloquent.Just to re-cap,AND,KNOWLEDGEABLE,ARGUMENT,and THEIR,fairly basic words if you're(note the spelling) not a knuckle dragger(note the silent letter in Knuckle,same as the 'p' in bath.Get this right,I can't just walk onto a job and go ,"Right,I'm going to need a 1/2 inch end cap for that",not yet,I was asking a bona-fide question if there was a common size for example for a particular job,that makes me a cowboy to some people,what a load of cliquey *******s.At least 2 people gave sensible replies ,diyisfun and olli?,cheers,all I wanted.Be honest mate,you are upset really or you wouldn't have responded.Oops,just spotted another one,LEARNT,ha,what a nugget
