I've recently gutted out a disused backboiler and gas burner from a fireplace and...but obviuosly now theres quite a void to fill.

Are there any options for purchasing and having installed a hybrid coal/gas open fire. If not, what to do with the gas pipe (1/4 inch) popping up in the front/middle of the fireplace.

Moving it is not an option as it's set in concrete and the next owners may want a gas fire instead of coal.

thanks b.

Moving it is an option if you are prepared to pay someone to cut up the concrete and move it to one side and cap it off correctly for possible later use.

This concrete construction is in a block of flats with people above and below - it really would be a pain and unadvisable to move the pipe as the floor is structural and there is no evidence that ithe pipe was channeled in afterwards.

I take it then that there is no hybrid coal / gas open fire that you know of.

thanks.
