Hi all,
I have a couple of (fully functional) wall mounted 'Baxi Brazillia' gas heaters which need removing.
I appreciate this work needs to be done by a Registered Gas Installer, so would any RGIs living in the south London (Sutton) area like to take them off my hands?

You want someone to call to disconnect ancient wall heaters, and be paid with ....ancient wall heaters?

You are right guys (gals). I need them gone but was shocked at the price quoted for their removal by the electrician who will be installing the replacement heaters.
Got them on ebay too with 1 'watcher' - fingers crossed.

By the way Fireman T, you are not alone. There is a (probably diminishing) community which love these heaters and Baxi still make them

To my mind, if something is still being produced, then a fully functioning example of that thing has value. Also, I would hate to dump something that could be used by someone else.

If I don't get any takers by next weekend, I'll hire someone to do the job of removing them and relist them on ebay.

What do you all think I should be paying a Registered Gas Installer to safely remove the heaters and cap off the gas supplies?

Baxi 5000 and 8000 best little wall heaters ever made must have fitted well over a thousand. Absolute doddle to fit and even simpler to repair if they went wrong, they could be completely stripped in under 5 minutes

How much did the ELECTRICIAN quote?

How much did the ELECTRICIAN quote?
£130, without patching the flue holes.

£160. Not sure if this was to patch the holes as well. I assume so because the sparks said he would "roughly" patch up his chases ready for a top coat of finishing plaster (also known as that ready mixed stuff you can get from Screwfix:LOL:).
I guess that, if that's the going rate, I may well have to pay it.

I guess I must be wrong but isn't it a relatively simple and quick job for a gas engineer to do?

£130 - £160 seems a tad excessive to me.
