Gas installation notifiable?

We had a new Gas Cooker installed some weeks ago and I am told by a friend that the Gas Safe Engineer should have given us, or arranged for a Certificate to say the work was in compliance with LA Building Regs etc.

Can someone in the know please advise on any regs around this?
