Gas meter and building a porch

I’m looking to build a front porch but outside the double doors is the gas meter which is in the ground. If I was able to build a timber framed porch with access hatch in the floor to this is that acceptable or not? Or would the gas meter have to be moved?

Last porch I built 3 years ago had same problem.
British gas moved the meter by 4 foot for free.
Worth giving them a ring.
