Existing gas pipe will pass under where my extension is being built. Will the gas pipe have to be routed around the extension or can the extension be built over it?

Thanks?

If Its The Plastic Service Pipe You Are Talking About Then It Should Be Moved But No Builder Cares Or Knows Anything About It. To Move The Service Its Gunna Cost Ya At Least £500

Thankyou for your reply. It is an LPG pipe from a tank in the garden.

Is there any Regs on this that I can have a look at, or is it just 'Good Practice' to move it??

The pipe must be diverted by an RGI with LPG qualifications.

Do not let the builder get within half a mile of it.

Yes there are loads of regulations, and I'm not about to tell you.

Get an RGI as above.

No Gas Pipe can pass UNDER any Foundation!

Depending on where on your Installation the 2nd Stage Governor UPSO/OPSO is located, the Pipe may be the property of your LPG Supplier,

You Should Contact your Gas supplier ASAP for advice ;)

At the usual depth of a gas pipe it would never pass UNDER a foundation.

However, it can pass THROUGH an extension if its suitably protected.

Your gas engineer will advise.

We dont advise on DIY gas work here.

What is the difference between 'THROUGH' an extension and 'UNDER'??

Can you or can't you....!!!!!

The difference is that the regulations prohibit a gas pipe running UNDER foundations.

They do permit a suitable protected pipe running THROUGH the wall of a building.

bobby62, thesE guys like to show how clever they are, but they also suffer from an inability to clearly express themselves, they're only gassafe plumbers afterall, not qualified engineers.

It is not permissible to run gas pipes under any normal structure or foundations for a structure, due to the possible chance of a pipe fracture and subsequent gas leak into the building - IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS.

Holmslaw was quite rude to one person on the thread that he started recently.

He now seems to want to be rude to all of the experts on here.

Can he find any example of anything I have not stated totally clearly?

Because he was rude to me, for absolutely no reason.

Yes, the experts that responded to this post especially the one that said y gas can go under buildings - expert my a***.

Somebody beat me to it  see above

What do you call a clique of plumbers?

First if anyone hasn't picked on the fact.

We are talking LPG, That would be 6BAR pressure up to the second stage regulator.

The pipe is almost certainly the property of the supplier.

If the builder or anyone else that's not competent to work on high pressure gas touches it, then it's Riddor reportable and trust me when I say it's immediately dangerous.

The pipe can come out of the ground before the extension into the second stage regulator, and from there it can go into the building above ground.

And that is all the information you or anyone needs to know.
