gas pipework

Here is another scenario what would happen if i lit a match in a gas holder

You would probably have suffocated before you could find which pocket the matches are in.

If you did light it then the head would flare up because it contains an oxidant but the wood shaft would not ignite.

Tony

so he would feel brief euphoria as the match head light up, thinking he is going to cook his beef after all! Then sadness, knowing his beef is going to remain uncooked and his about to die from lack of oxygen!

Moral to the story is he should have gone to Macdonalds!

To release gas left in pipework get a blowlamp, fire it up and point it into the pipe containing left over gas, this will ignite. blow up meter, half of house and yourself, if after this you can find your arms & hands, nose around in ashes to find piece of pipe, cut it, using a bit of wire wool & your teeth, clean both ends, flux & solder, perfect!

This is unsafe advice.

The surest way to get the gas out of the pipe is to disconnect the pipe, take it into the garden, and rinse it out with the garden hose.

this is rubbish advice, whilst you will undoubtedly get the pipe clean, local hosepipe bans may well be in force.

i personnally prefer to cut the pipe in two places, thread some string down it with an old jumper attached to the end. get a friend/helper/neighbour to get the other end of the string as it exits and using an tugging motion draw the string/jumper through. far greener method than wasting water.

You're all neglecting the obvious. Ring BG and ask them to switch over to nitrogen whilst you are doing the work. Once it's complete they can switch back to NG. There will be a cost implication but this can be reduced if you co ordinate with the local area and ensure that all work is scheduled to take place at the same time.

Totally unfair to accuse me of giving rubbish advice; how was I to know you were allowed to use a helper?

Your own advice is not to green either as you did not specify it had to be an ecologically safe fair-trade organic recycled jumper.

I didn't see anything about fair pay for the assistant either, which reeks strongly of exploitation, nor did you make it clear this was an equal opportunities opportunity.

smart ar*e. why didnt i think of that.

Paddy has not responded since yesterday; I fear our advice has come too late.

to not allow helpers would mean i was breaking the equal opportunities regs as set down by our governing body, you should know that. i have 5 helpers on the books, an 80 yr old retired judge that fancies a career change because he read plumbers/heating engineers earn so much, a world championship boxer whose hung up the gloves and is looking for some hands on experience and fancies a career change because he read plumbers/heating engineers earn so much, a lesbian porn actress that fancies a career change because she read plumbers/heating engineers earn so much, an exposed expenses shame MP that fancies a career change because he read plumbers/heating engineers earn so much and a russian oil oligarch who takes a day a week, usually a friday (the football team he owns plays on a saturday) that fancies a career change because he read plumbers/heating engineers earn so much.
no one can accuse me of not moving with the times.
and mr bengasman, you should know all my clothing is ecologically safe fair-trade organic recycled.
and i have a solar brochure in my van, hows that for green.

As you have a (ex)mp on the books, you were required to inform us of all the options and details under the freedom of information act.

I am most distressed and will need counseling, the bill for which I will send to crapita as they were obviously negligent in instructing you.

As you are the direct source of my problems, they will probably sue you in turn.

As they don't seem to be capable of sending the required mail to the correct address, their claim is unlikely to be recognised.
As they are reknown for squeezing money out of people, the result will probably be a fee increase for RGI's.
So if we all have to pay more next year,
IT WILL ALL BE YOUR FAULT
