I've just broken my parents' precious ancient gas poker. Can anyone help me find a replacement ? It's probably nearly 50 years old and fits into the mains fitting on the floor by the fire. The poker bayonet is imperial measurements 7/16 diameter inside and 9/16 diameter to the outside edge but hope these are standard sizing for floor taps. The poker end with two pins sticking out either side have broken off and now the gas can't be turned on.
We tried to find gas pokers about 20 years ago but drew a blank and I guess they hoped this one would last them out !
I know you can get pokers connected to propane bottles (a local pub uses one) but these probably won't look very good in the living room and I'm hoping I can get another old poker. Or Else maybe getting a corgi installer change over the floor fitting if I can get a metric poker to match...

This is a brilliant website and everyone sounds very clued up so I'm hopeful and any info would be greatly appreciated !

Thanks for this link - the website was brilliant but they don't/can't supply the bayonet fitting that goes on the end of the poker hose. In fact I've now spoken to a few companies and they all say they are as rare as hen's teeth ! The company that originally made and supplied the bayonet fitting closed Nov 08 and there doesn't seem anyone else who makes them. Go Fix It said they get dozens of enquiries for the bayonet fittings and for pokers but they can't find anyone who makes them. Alan at BES says the same but they have just launched today a new fitting that can be installed with all the components which would be one solution but unfortunately it is not nearly as neat as the bayonet fitting into the floor gas valve.
I will probably get this brand new solution but was still hoping to find a replacement gas poker. Has anyone come across an old one or maybe one that's not needed/used any more ? I've drawn a blank on ebay and posted a "want" in local papers but thought it was worth another posting here just in case anyone has any more ideas or leads....!
Many thanks
Amanda
