Builders hand excavated footing to bring property line forward.PP approved. BC plan is to pour concrete 700mm in trench 1m deep.

I am waiting for heat pump to be installed in Jan. Order confirmed. I cannot wait for extension to complete after then.

What do I do with gas service pipe. Can it be sleeved. I intend to get meter removed by Octopus and then cadent to move the service pipe outside. But i need gas supply until 2nd week of Jan and property extension to be completed by then.

Currently service pipe comes into property through brick foundation then through a 6inch concrete slab into garage. Uts been like this for past 15 yrs i bought house and looks like since 1965 as neighbours dont recollect any changes to my house.

Garage converted into kitchen. Smart meters.

@gas112 will likely know, but have you spoken to Cadent about it? I think it needs to be protected from corrosion, and oversleeving might be possible

I called cadent. I need to call again tmrw. But i want my architect to liaise with them and add specification in his drawings.

I am pretty sure someone here must have come across this before.

If its a 25mm pipe? get a lenth of 4" soil pipe & cut it to the width of th trench. Then cut a 30mm slot down the lenth & slide it over the pipe & then put gaffeer tape over the slot to stop the concrete getting in.

you cannot build over an existing service . your builders and architect should both know this .
Should be moved and will be cut off when found but as you say your getting it cut off in jan
As I mentioned what is the solution until cut off. I will not be able to wait until Jan when cut off is planned.

Sleeve it. Lay your concrete then build in the gas meter box somewhere favourable on the run. Then have the meter moved. The gas people can't move it until you have built the new box. We do this often.

Thank you collectors. Is sleeving this way best option.

I had electric cable next to gas. I presume both need individual sleeve.

I called cadent. They wanted me to book a service enng appointment to assess whether sleeving is an option. I am being told it is not a definitive no, but depends on what enng suggests.

I am less worried about lecy. Its gas. I would have relocated but charge looks excessive as I will be cap supply in next 2 months.

Best to keep them seperate. Would also block the ends up with somthing like sponge & it should be enough to keep concrete out, but easey to remove if needed.

My architect is proposing a lintel and void to avoid concreting over services like a bridge he said...have requested him to get this approved by building control.

I am not sure what that exactly means. Has anyone tried above.

There is no need for a lintel. If it is your intention to move the gas pipe, then sleeve it, concrete it in. Build your ne masonry with your new meter box in then move the gas into that position when it is favourable to do so.

Make a note of where the gas pipe enters the extension in its new position and locate your gas meter box favourably to that. Take photos and mark the depth and position. Back-fill around the service with sand.
